Michael Victor LaRiccia received a BFA in printmaking from the University of Massachusetts in 2001 and an MFA in printmaking from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2005. In March of 2005 he was awarded a Xeric grant to self-publish his somewhat autobiographical graphic novel
Black Mane. Since the publication of
Black Mane LaRiccia has been involved with several anthologies and has self-published
The Death of Black Mane and the Feared Self, Satori, and most recently
DISCO. In February 2007 he had a solo exhibition in Portland Oregon, titled
Pouring Concrete. The exhibition marked a new phase in his career shifting his focus exclusively to sequential art. In February 2008 he exhibited pages of his upcoming book at Princeton University’s Bernstein Gallery. LaRiccia periodically teaches cartooning for children and exhibits at alternative comics conferences throughout the country.
