I'm Tennyson E. Stead, and I'm one of the people who started this whole thing.

Like it says on my profile: "8 Sided Films represents my stewardship over those stories born from intent too multifaceted or unique for studio production, and my commitment to honoring that intent from page to screen and beyond."

Basically, I'm here because having a close relationship with all of you is more important to me than having a close relationship with the agents and managers that usually serve as the first link between an entertainer and his or her audience.

In my opinion, this is one of the most important ways that social media is changing things for filmmakers. In the new media, marketing isn't as valuable as just getting to know one another.

It's about time!
I'm a screenwriter with a background in theatre (actor, stage manager, sound tech, stage sweeper and set painter, all around theatre trash). I'm originally from just outside of Dallas, Texas, but I currently live in rural Kansas. I've written a few screenplays before and got some positive feedback, but no sales. I'm hoping my current script, "Preordained," will be my ticket. I first started practicing my Oscar acceptance speech at 13, but now my goal is to simply be a working writer and maybe someday take the plunge to be an all-out filmmaker. I love horror, the kind that doesn't necessarily make you grab for a barf bag, but is so freaky you want to hide under your couch. I also love the supernatural/paranormal, and want to concentrate my scripts on supernatural topics not usually talked about in film. I also love Monty Python, and good LGBT (though there's not much and I'd like to change that).
I'm looking to connect with other filmmaker/film enthusiasts. The www is a great way to connect with an audience, even before a film is made and released. I came to understand the web's potential pretty late, but now I realize that it is an opportunity to create a worldwide community. I look forward to meeting everyone here.
Welcome to the 8 Sided Forum, Angela. Thanks for coming in!
Hi! I am a Tenny supporter from way back. I don't have a whole lot of time to hit these sights but, well, I'll try!
Great to see you here, Jodi! Welcome to the Forum! Ladies and Gents, Jodi is the person who taught me to sew like a man.
Hello my name is Dawn and I am a screenwriter, new to the business and will be doing my first production in March 2010.
Hello:
I have been around for quite a while but just discovered you folks, which is good. Not knowing exactly where to begin I will just begin by saying that in 2009 I was cast in a film, The Secret Friend [www.thesecretfriendmovie.com] which seems to have some "legs' and is being submitted for consideration to various upcoming international film festivals. I also have a website, www.richardjscott.com. I might add at this point that whatever material appears on the website was paid for and provided by none other than myself since I had nothing of a professional nature to put on my reel.
I live in upstate New York but not that far from Manhattan that I don't go in to the city several times a month. I have been a member of ActorsAccess for a number of years and have gotten work from this. I look forward to hearing from anyone with something to contribute and to find out more about this forum. Thanks, Richard Scott
Keep producing content, Richard - this industry is becoming more entrepreneurial by the day. Several of our actors are with us for the same reason, actually. To us, it just makes sense to make the most of each shoot that we can. Why shoot reel footage, when you can shoot a web series and entertain some folks in the process?
Hmmm...how can I find out more about what you refer to as a "web series"? I need to get up to speed....

Check out The Guild, or and Boris. Both are great!
I'm a screenwriter, actor, propmaster, carpenter,...etc. I've done many aspects of production in my time. My current focus is screenwriting. At this moment my attentions are focused on The Duel. We have filmed the first episode (30 minutes) we are now in the process of post-production.

It is about a group of people who fled underground to escape the nuclear fallout from WW III. In the beginning they discarded all of the current social conventions that separated man; religion, government, race, and sex. From the ashes of the old world rose the corporations of New Phoenix. Population control soon became an issue, so the shareholders, instituted The Duel. The Duel, a societal rite of passage for everyone in their eighteenth year, forces two teens to fight. The winner becomes a shareholder the loser dies. Seven hundred years later, this underground utopian society is still flourishing.

I would be very interested in hearing what everyone on this forum thinks. It is a bold and ambitious idea, that I feel has great potential. Not only are there dozens of stories to tell, but the underlying themes are relevant today. We are not forced to kill when we are eighteen, but we are pushed by parents, schools, society to "battle" our peers for the best schools and jobs. They drum into our heads the rules that we must follow, the behaviors we must adopt. Our lives have become competitions. Think about when you drive your car; you fight through traffic, you have stop lights to obey, parking signs to observe (sometimes as many as three), then you have to fight for parking.

So, tell me what you think. Thanks!
Thanks for posting, Ben - and welcome to the Forum! As far as the Duel is concerned, it's like anything else - good storytelling is all in the execution. Good luck with post, and be sure to let us know when the first episode is online!
